Wayzata Runners Alumni Report - Week Ending 3/22

Welcome to the Wayzata High School Alumni Indoor Track Report for the week ending March 22, 2015. Let's take a quick tour around the country to see how Wayzata graduates are faring for their colleges.

McKenna Evans (Class of '14) - University of Nevada

The Wolfpack travels to Sacramento, Calif. for the Hornet Invite on Saturday, March 21. At this time, it appears McKenna is not listed in any event. 











Annika Halverson (Class of '14) - Bethel (MN)


Annika flew to San Diego, California this week for the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational. Annika ran the 800 and finished in 4th place (23 total runners) with a time of 2:17.50. As of this posting, that would place her 8th nationally in D3 and fastest in the MIAC. It is also a PR for her, having run 2:19.83 for Wayzata high school in 2014.

"The Bethel University track and field teams enjoyed a great day on the track in sunny San Diego, as the Royals competed against nine to ten other teams in the 2015 Ross and Sharon Irwin Invite. Riding the momentum from the MIAC Indoor Meet, Miriam Nordquist finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.55 seconds. Jillian Krier finished eighth in both the 100- and the 200-meter dash. Annika Halverson competed in the 800-meter race and finished fourth overall with a time of 2:17.50. Paige Thielen finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.93, while Amanda Passaglia finished second in the hammer throw with a toss of 40.65 meters."

Annika currently sits 8th in US for D3 colleges

 
And in early season standings, leads the MIAC

Derek Peterson (Class of '13) - Lipscomb (TN)


Up Next: Alabama Relays, March 19-20

Derek anchored Lipscomb to a 11:02.08 in the DMR.











Off this weekend:

Lauren Farquhar (Class of '13) - Bethany Lutheran College (MN)


Lauren will run outdoor track for the Vikings this spring. She is a hurdle specialist. In 2014, she placed 5th in the 400 hurdles at the UMAC outdoor championships. Word is she will run the steeple this coming season. Her first outdoor meet will be April 11 at Gustavus. 









Mary Franke (Class of '14) - Colorado State


Injury issues have interrupted Franke's freshman year, and she has been red-shirted. She continues to workout with the Rams team and is currently gearing up for the outdoor season where she will run unattached. Next race tentatively set for March 28th in Fort Collins (CO). 5K or 10K distance.









Alayna Sonnesyn (Class of '14) - Vermont

Last competed at NCAA Nordic Championships. March 11-14. Word is she will run outdoor track. Schedule TBD.











Marit Sonnesyn (Class of '13) - Gustavus


If Marit runs track this spring, she will travel to San Diego to compete in the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational on March 28.












Adam Brandt (Class of '13) - University of St. Thomas

Brian Jarvey (Class of '12) - University of St. Thomas

Joe Meister (Class of '13) - UW-Eau Claire

Adam Moline (Class of '12) - UW-Eau Claire

Note: Moline was named to the 2015 Indoor USTFCCCA All-American team.









James Smith (Class of '14) - Cornell (NY)

Michael Smith (Class of '14) - Cornell (NY)

Update on Michael: He suffered a minor hamstring injury and is expected back to competing in the near future.

Josh Thorson (Class of '12) - UW-Eau Claire

Next at Emory Classic on March 27-28.

Note: Thorson was twice named was named to the 2015 Indoor USTFCCCA All-American team.









Obinnaya Wamuo (Class of '14) - University of Chicago
